From Rue Dickey comes I Want Your Bite, a competitive game for 4-6 players and the Vampire whose affection they are trying to win. Designed to be played as a one-shot, you will need a copy of the game and two six-sided dice – that’s it!
Alternatively titled “The Bachelor, but if The Bachelor was a vampire” the game very much fits its inspiration (or at least, my impression of it, having never seen the show) – it is good, light-hearted fun with a competitive edge that by no means results in players having to work against each other, something I deeply appreciate!
I Want Your Bite is made up of the Grand Entrance, Downtime, Challenges (group and/or solo) and, finally, the Ceremony where everyone has one last chance to make a good impression. At the end of the Ceremony whoever has the highest amount of points, which measures the Vampire’s interest in them, earns themselves immortal life! I can easily imagine a group playing through this multiple times with each member taking turns being the Vampire and the stories being wildly different each time – especially since the Vampire also has points to award at their discretion!
With over six candidate archetypes to choose from – which include descriptions about you, a special ability, three skills, and a flaw – and the possibility of adding a vampire hunter into the mix, this game offers plenty to sink your teeth into. I think the hunter is an especially fun addition, as it also gives the Vampire the added challenge of trying to determine who the hunter is, and making sure they don’t win! But is there only one hunter? The Vampire won’t know until giving the fateful bite, or getting a stake through the heart.
Available on Itch for $10USD, I Want Your Bite is a delightful one-shot that I can easily see working into larger campaigns. It also emphasizes safety and consent, which is important in all games – especially those dealing with romance. It is worth noting also that love is explicitly described as subjective in this game, as it does not need to be romantic or sexual in nature – a conversation that should happen with your tables. What would your Vampire be looking for in a death partner? How would you try to woo your immortal love? Best get to playing and find out!
