October Releases

Hey, hey, hey,

it’s me, Loira, your local (or international, it depends really) fairy witch mother! Halloween season is officially upon us, and what is the season for if not delightful treats and tricks! I can’t promise any tricks, that’s not really my area of expertise, but I can offer some wonderful treats in the form of cool projects that are either being released, or in funding! What better way to kick-off the season, right? If you want to make some magic through helping something come to life, or bring some magic home with you well, I suggest taking a look at these treats below…

– Loira

Note: Originally this article had two additional entries planned for it, but those are now going to be covered in 2023 instead – there’s so many cool projects to look forward to, and I’m so grateful to get to share my excitement with you!

Tome of Pacts Zine by Sleepy Wyrm Creative Guild

A collaborative work from 50+ artists and writers, Tome of Pacts is a compedium offering new, innovative patrons and warlocks in manuel-esque style, ready to bring to your home TTRPG campaign! It’s important to note that Tome of Pacts is not designed for any particular system, and per the Kickstarter “can be described as an artbook that includes lore-like descriptions of the entities it portrays.”

With twelve new patrons there’s sure to be at least one that speaks to your warlock loving heart. There’s both digital and physical versions of the zine available, with reward tiers offering the books alone, or alongside a whole assortment of beautifully made goodies!

Now, if I were to make a pie chart of character classes, a disproportionate percentage would be warlocks so to say I’m excited about a fresh take on patrons and their warlocks is a massive understatement. I cannot wait to get my hands on this release, and combined with Faerie Fire, which I talk about below?? Ohhh I’m going to get into all sorts of trouble I’m sure!

You can find Tome of Pacts on Kickstarter [here].

Faerie Fire by Daylight Publications

So if there’s one thing I love it’s the Fey and, thanks to A Court of Fey and Flowers from Dimension 20, I’ve recently been thinking more about an expanded vision of the courts of faerie, and how being from one court or another would influence my characters. That we’re geting six lineages with cultural traits, in addition to a breakdown of what it means to be from a different court?? I’m nearly vibrating in excitement; this is going to be a useful reference for me.

I have four characters who I’m particularly looking forward to reviewing alongside this supplement, as I know it’s going to be a good one. Am I biased for playing in a Ramia PBP game Cam’s running, and for having worked with La several times over the last few years? Probably? But my enthusiasm and excitement about this release is sky high, and my evening on October 20th is already reserved for looking this supplement over!

Faerie Fire from Daylight Publications will be releasing on Dungeon Master’s Guild on Thursday, October 20 2022.

Baba Lysaga’s Nocturnes & Nightmares – A Community Project

Just looking at the number of things coming with this release has me excited, look at it all!! Divided into four parts (Twilight, Dusk, Midnight and Dawn) Nocturnes & Nightmares is bringing four new nightmare domains (Hex: Covens in Conflict, Kachelior (The Faded Land), Psedolop (The Myconid Mausoleum), and The Gloom (An Existential Tragedy)) which all sound delightfully creepy, a veritable well of spells, monsters and items, tips on running horror (I always enjoy reading these), and thirteen new subclasses.

From promotions on Twitter we know about the Pathologist Artificer, Abysswalker Monk, Oath of the Lantern Paladin, and Xenobiologist Ranger! From name alone, I’m eyeing this upcoming artificer subclass with great interest. I’ve only played an artificer one and it was in an All Kobolds oneshot, but pathology is deeply interesting to me and I’m particularly looking forward to seeing how this one plays mechanically! Update from having seen my review copy: the Sorceror subclass gives us a Banshee origin and I stopped everything I was doing to go “oh my god!!!” with great excitement, I cannot wait to sit down with this – one of my characters is a banshee, this is perfect! I love it.

The team behind Nocturnes & Nightmares were brought together through The Cove discord where Anthony (@EpicBlundersRPG) recruited people to create a Halloween adventure (thank you Bryan, of Bjarke The Bard, for speaking with me about this). They were also kind enough to provide me a review copy, so look for that before October 28th!

Baba Lysaga’s Nocturnes & Nightmares is releasing on Friday, October 21 2022 and will be available on Dungeon Master’s Guild. You can read my review for it [here].
